Discover The Benefits Of Veneers With IBO

The secret to a beautiful smile is confidence. When you are confident with how your teeth look, it shows in your smile. While practicing proper oral hygiene will keep it healthy and strong, dental procedures help create picture-perfect smiles. These procedures include orthodontic treatments and cosmetic dentistry.

Veneers are a popular cosmetic option for people looking to get beautiful teeth fast. With veneers, you’ll get to address discolored, chipped, and broken teeth all at once, giving a full smile transformation.

Our dental team at IBO provides us with information on how veneers are made and its amazing benefits.

What Is A Veneer?

Simply put, a veneer is a layer of material, often ceramic, that’s permanently placed and bonded over a tooth. It could be applied to one tooth or several teeth, depending on an individual’s needs. Veneers can be partial, only covering a part of the tooth or full.  Veneers are made specifically to match your teeth’s natural color and the face’s structure.

How Do Veneers Work?

The procedure in having veneers involves several steps. The first is setting up an appointment with your healthcare provider. Your dentist will identify the best course of action for your dental needs and determine whether or not you’re the right fit for veneers. Patients who have gum problems such as gingivitis or cavities are not fit for the procedure. Individuals should address these issues before getting veneers.

This prevents any complications, such as pain and bleeding.  The dentist then prepares the teeth by trimming it or removing some of the enamel around it and notes your natural teeth shade. After this, an impression is taken to create a temporary veneer. A pre-cementation evaluation is conducted to ensure the veneer is the right fit and to make the necessary adjustments before permanently bonding it.

Once everything is finalized, the veneer is permanently placed using a bonding agent. You may come back to your dentist for follow-ups and evaluations if further adjustments are required. The whole process takes one to three dental appointments.

The Benefits Of Veneers

Through veneers, you’ll be able to improve your teeth’s structure as well as strengthen it.  Placing the veneers in your smile zone, or the most visible area when you smile provides the appearance of alignment- making it aesthetically pleasing. Apart from this, veneers are a great option for patients looking for minimally invasive procedures to fix their smiles.

Since veneers are permanent and durable, they naturally resist tooth decay and, with the right care, are less susceptible to discoloration. When maintained properly, your veneers can last from 10 to 15 years. You will also boost your confidence with your new smile, making it more comfortable to communicate with people and form relationships, especially in professional settings.

Maintaining Your Veneers

Veneers are very easy to maintain. You only need to take care of your veneers, just as you would with your natural teeth. However, it is encouraged to maintain consistent and proper oral hygiene. Brush your teeth twice a day and floss daily after every meal. Don’t forget to schedule regular appointments with your dentist to keep your oral health in check and the condition of your veneers.

Eliminate Hair Fall With Special Hair Loss Treatments

People have different hair types, from straight, wavy, to curly hair. The hair also varies depending on thickness and density. Thickness refers to the width of a person’s hair strands while density relates to how thick or thin the hair is, collectively.  This means a person can have fine hair and thick in density, and thick hair that’s less dense.

Despite the differences in hair types, thickness, and density, there is one thing in common- we all want healthy hair. There are several ways to achieve this, including changes in our lifestyle and diet. Special shampoos and oral supplements are also available for people looking to get healthy hair.

Our aesthetic experts at IBO Medical Center provide us with a few helpful information to keep our hair healthy in this blog. We will also address hair fall, its causes, and possible treatment.

What Makes Hair Healthy?

Healthy hair is characterized by its smooth texture, healthy volume, and strength. Individuals who have healthy hair are more confident- after all, our hair is our crowning glory. We can all achieve healthy locks through these tips;

  1. Aid Your Hair’s Growth With An Occasional Trim

Trimming your hair at least every 4 to 8 weeks will ensure healthy growth. A regular trim will get rid of damaged hair and split ends. It also makes the hair less susceptible to breakage since a trim will make it more flexible, softer, and less brittle.

  1. Use The Right Shampoo And Conditioner

Our experts recommend using shampoo 2-3 times a week and conditioner daily. Shampoo gets rid of the hair’s natural oil, so limiting your shampoo use will maintain the hair’s natural oil balance. Meanwhile, the conditioner keeps the hair clean and moisturized.

  1. Watch Your Diet

Eating a well-balanced diet will ensure the healthy growth of your hair.  Several foods have excellent benefits to the hair, especially those rich in protein and iron- nutrients that are essential for hair growth. Don’t forget to stay hydrated. Hydration will keep not just your hair moisturized but your skin as well.

How Much Is Too Much Hair Fall?

The American Academy of Dermatologists says that an average person sheds 50 to 100 strands of hair every day, which is a regular occurrence. Also, women tend to lose more strands of hair due to styling. When you experience a significant amount of hair fall, it can result from stress or a health condition.  These are the most common causes of hair fall;

  • genetics
  • alopecia
  • pattern baldness
  • hormone changes in women (pregnancy, menopause, etc.)
  • thyroid diseases (PCOS or polycystic ovary syndrome, lupus, etc.)

Consulting an expert on hair loss and its treatments will help ensure you get the best care for your hair concerns. Therapies such as mesotherapy and PRP are common procedures used to address hair loss.

Mesotherapy And PRP

Mesotherapy is known to be effective in addressing wrinkles, fine lines, and skin rejuvenation. However, aesthetic clinics also take advantage of its several benefits to treat hair loss. Through mesotherapy, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients are injected into the scalp to correct hormone imbalances and improve blood circulation around the hair follicles. This, in turn, helps to regrow hair.

In PRP therapy, blood is drawn from the patient where the PRP or platelet-rich plasma is extracted using a centrifuge. The extracted PRP is then processed and injected back into the patient’s scalp. The PRP contains special proteins or growth factors that help regenerate the cells and stimulate hair growth.

At IBO, we offer both PRP and Mesotherapy to help address hair fall. Trichoscopy is also available to evaluate the hair and scalp and diagnose any issues that may cause hair thinning and hair fall.  In Trichoscopy, the hair and scalp can be seen at greater magnification, providing better visualization of the individual’s condition.

Sinusitis: Learn About The Allergens Behind It

Our sinuses are empty cavities filled with air and a thin layer of tissue called the mucosa. When the soft pink tissue or the mucosa becomes congested with mucus, the tissue swells resulting in sinusitis. Sinusitis is a condition characterized by an inflammation of the tissues that line the four sinus cavities or the body’s nasal passages. This inflammation can be caused by either virus, bacterial growth, or allergens.

In this post, our experts at IBO, a medical center in Sharjah, provides us an overview of sinusitis, its symptoms, treatment, and a few of the common allergens behind it.

Classifications Of Sinusitis

Sinusitis can be classified by severity – accordingly, these are acute and chronic sinusitis.

Acute Sinusitis

Otherwise known as Rhinosinusitis, this condition is fairly prevalent among people across different age groups. Although acute sinusitis develops relatively faster than chronic sinusitis, it lasts shorter. Most cases resolve after a week or two. The common cold usually causes this type of sinusitis. The symptoms for acute sinusitis include nasal obstruction or congestion, facial pain, especially on the sinus cavities), headache, cough, and runny nose. Patients may also experience fever and pressure in the ears.

Chronic Sinusitis

Sinusitis is classified as chronic when the condition persists for more than three months despite numerous treatments. Although acute and chronic sinusitis has similar symptoms, the duration of the condition differentiates the two. While patients experience acute sinusitis temporarily or in the short term, sufferers of chronic sinusitis endure it for months. When left untreated, chronic sinusitis causes complications, including vision problems and other infections such as meningitis.

Other Symptoms

As previously mentioned, common sinusitis symptoms of sinusitis include a congested nose, headache, and runny nose. Infections in the sinus usually start with cold-like symptoms, and as it progresses, the individual experiences pain and pressure in the sinus cavities. Other symptoms include:

  • Bad breath
  • Puffiness around the eyes/ swollen eyelids
  • A feeling of tenderness in your face or nasal blockage
  • Fatigue or extreme tiredness
  • Pus in the sinus
  • Sore Throat
  • Teary eyes

Causes Of Sinusitis

As previously mentioned, sinusitis occurs when the mucosa swells. Common colds, respiratory infections, and tissue irritants such as over the counter nasal sprays and cigarette smoking can cause sinusitis. Allergens, including pollen, animal dander, dust, and certain fragrances cause the swelling of the sinus cavities, resulting in sinusitis. Other allergens include:

  • Mold
  • Houseplants
  • Smoke
  • Dust mites
  • Fumes from cleaning products/ toiletries

Inhaling these allergens can cause sinusitis. It’s crucial to avoid environments that have these allergens.

Treatment

Your healthcare provider can prescribe you with over the counter medicines that help relieve the symptoms of sinusitis. Depending on the cause of your condition, your doctor will prescribe you antibiotics. For extreme or severe sinusitis, expect prolonged treatment. It is crucial not to purchase antibiotics without a prescription to avoid misuse and incorrect dosage. This misuse often results in bacterial resistance.

Ensure to seek the help of your doctor if your symptoms persist. The experts at our department of family medicine can help you with your condition. Contact us today for more information.

How To Ensure A Healthy Growth And Development For Your Child

Our children are precious to us, and we only want what’s best for them. It is our responsibility to help them grow and develop properly, so we work hard to provide them with a good childhood. When we talk about our children’s growth and development, there are several things we need to consider.

Children experience different areas of growth that include their emotions, cognitive behavior, and physical appearance. Since not all children are the same, the rate of their development in such areas vary. This makes it difficult to compare your children’s development to others their age. However, by understanding these areas,  and with a pediatrician’s help, parents can better promote their child’s development.

Let us discuss different elements that contribute to your child’s growth so you can better assist them in their development.

A Healthy Physical Development

This can be divided into two categories- gross and fine motor skills. Gross motor skills are the skills that your child develops to carry out movements using the muscles in the arms, legs, and torso. Gross motor movements include activities such as running, balancing, jumping, and climbing. On the other hand, fine motor skills are the abilities that involve movements in the hands and wrists. These are skills that children often use to do small activities in schools such as writing, drawing, arts and crafts, etc.

To help your child develop their gross and fine motor skills, you should provide an environment where they can practice both these skills. Active play is one way to promote the development of both gross and fine motor skills. Our pediatricians suggest encouraging your child’s motor skills by letting them help with chores at home as the time they spend outside can be limited.

Maintaining A Balanced Diet And Nutrition

Of course, your children need to have strong bones, muscles, and overall a healthy body, to be able to develop and grow properly. Giving them a properly balanced diet and adequate nutrition is vital. Incorporate as many fruits and vegetables into their diet as possible. In reality, it can be challenging to feed your child with healthy food, so you need to take the effort and be creative in preparing them.

Everybody needs the same type of nutrients, but since a child’s body is still growing, their need is significantly higher than those of adults. Aim for nutrient-dense foods that will ensure they receive the proper amount of nutrition. Ideally, protein, fruits, vegetables, grain, and dairy products should be present in their diet and adequate amounts.

Supporting Your Child’s Social-Emotional Growth

Every parent should understand that a child’s social-emotional development is an integral building block for a healthy and happy childhood. Parents are responsible for ensuring their children maintain a strong foundation for forming interpersonal relationships- an aspect that begins at home.

Create a space for your children at home where they can express themselves freely. Always communicate with them, let them feel they are heard, and their opinions and thoughts matter.  Teach your children what should be done through example. Children are great observers, and they are likely to pick up some habits from watching you.  It is also good to encourage independence in your children, allow them the opportunity to create their own choices.

Responding With Encouragement

Finally, motivate them to share their thoughts and express their emotions; respond with support and encouragement. Offer guidance and validate their emotions. All of these situations will help your child develop a healthy social-emotional well being.

Being there for your child during the times where they grow, learn about the world around them, and develop into healthy teenagers and later adults, is a rewarding experience.  Pediatricians can provide you with the right advice on ensuring they grow up well.
